Raymarine Angler Wins Bassmaster Elite Tournament in Texas
Electronics play a crucial role in dominating Sabine River event
Wilsonville, OR – March 24, 2015 - Raymarine pro Chris Lane, of Guntersville, Ala., dominated the Sabine River Bassmaster Elite Series tournament, March 19 – 22, in Orange, Texas with a total four-day catch of 50 pounds. It was Lane’s 7th career B.A.S.S. victory, earning him $103,000 in winnings, plus a spot in the 2016 Bassmaster Classic next year.
Lane credits Raymarine’s latest generation eSeries Multifunction Displays, along with CHIRP DownVision™ and SideVision™ sonar, for helping him locate the spots where fish were biting. The Sabine River is a vast 510-mile fishery that covers parts of southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana with a mixture of creeks, bayous and marshlands.
“My Raymarine gear really kept me dialed-in” said Lane, who led wire-to-wire. “I was running through fog, creeks, shipping channels, and my Raymarine system guided me to good water all weekend."
Early morning fog, heavy rain, muddy canals, and commercial ship traffic proved problematic for the anglers. The tidal influence of the Gulf of Mexico was also a huge factor that Lane exploited with some local knowledge and help from his electronics. Lane had predicted there would be a one-hour window on opening day to score big and jump to an early lead, which proved correct.
“The tide chart on my Raymarine was fantastic,” said Lane, in a statement to Bassmaster.com. “With tidal water, there are times to really capitalize. Those windows are very short. But when you find what really works on a certain fishery during that hour window that you have, you can really put some good fish in the boat.”
In addition to Lane’s success, Raymarine pro Brandon Lester, of Fayetteville, Tenn., finished 4th overall in the tournament. Lester had an impressive performance on the last day, gaining several positions on the leader board before the end. It was the second Top-12 finish of his career.
