As a Systems Engineer Jamie Townsend is a key liaison between software development, user interface (UI) design teams, and quality assurance, and plays a pivotal role in ensuring that Raymarine's marine electronics meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and compliance.

Jamie's extensive experience working on a diverse range of vessels, from military ships to cargo ships, submarines, and ferries, provides him with invaluable insights into the unique challenges and requirements of different maritime environments. His involvement in significant projects such as the Integrated Navigation System Project with the New Zealand Navy has further enhanced his understanding of system integration and design. Jamie's hands-on experience allows him to anticipate potential issues and ensure that Raymarine products are tailored to meet the specific needs of various vessel types, delivering reliable performance in any maritime scenario.

Drawing upon these years of experience in the commercial maritime sector, Jamie meticulously outlines the functionalities, features, and performance criteria that products must adhere to. These specifications serve as a roadmap for the development teams, ensuring Raymarine meet customer requirements and industry standards.

Leveraging his background in primary surveillance radar technology and years of experience as a service engineer, Jamie meticulously tests software to verify its functionality, usability, and reliability. Rigorous testing protocols, ensure that every aspect meets the highest standards of quality before it is released to customers.

Jamie is also responsible for ensuring products and systems meet the necessary regulatory standards and industry certifications. With experience working with the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and Kelvin Hughes (Hensoldt UK), Jamie brings a deep understanding of regulatory compliance to his role. He actively monitors changes in regulations and standards, ensuring that Raymarine products remain compliant with the latest requirements.

In addition to his immediate responsibilities, Jamie keeps a keen eye on the future, ensuring that our marine electronics not only perform as expected now but also remain relevant and adaptable to future technological advancements. With his involvement in working groups for key standards via organizations like the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and Radio Technical Commission for Maritime Services (RTCM), Jamie helps shape the future of marine electronics standards, ensuring that Raymarine products are at the forefront of innovation.
